University of Delaware Soccer Alumni

Arguably the best team ever produced at Delaware, this is the 1968 team that was the first to represent the University in NCAA competition. They lost to Temple in 4 OT's 3-2. Below is their record for the year which saw John Dusewicz keep a Blue Hen record nine shutouts and Mike Biggs hit a record 17 goals on the year:

The NCAA Championship for the year was split beween Maryland and Michigan State after a 2-2 draw in the final held in Atlanta, GA.

For those younger readers who think that the sport of soccer is fairly new in the country consider that in 1968 Santos of Brazil played Napoli in Yankee Stadium in front of 43,000 and in their 13 game tour of the US were seen by over 279,000 fans.
