John Zimmerman (See Photo Gallery) is now a chiropractor living in Fort Collins Colorado with his wife and 3 children and writes..... "This is one memory I will never forget from UD soccer. It was my junior year- 1972- I think. We were playing Temple at home. They were cocky to say the least and some of them I knew from Philly club soccer- German Hungarian Club. Billy Dannenberg absolutely hated them. At some point in the game I was about 20 yards out from their goal, in the middle above the circle. Billy had the ball and was dribbling across the goal mouth about 8 yards out. He was bent over and surrounded by Temple players. He was faking and moving and it looked as if they were jumping on his back and he was shrugging them off. It was an impossible situation and I have never seen anyone so determined. Of course he scored. It was pure will power. He totally made it happen from pure desire and persistence. In difficult situations I always think of doing a Dannenberg- not accepting anything less than success. I remember we won that! game and that their coach was really angry about it and told my Dad he didn’t want to play us again. Thanks Billy. The dates may be wrong, even the location or the score but I can still see that entire play in my mind’s eye."
